Kailua real estate, Lanikai beach homes, beachfront homes

Kailua at one time was used for farming and ranch land and has slowly evolved into a residential community with a commercial center.  The area is about a 12 mile drive over the Pali from Honolulu. It is bordered by the Koolau mountain range, the Ka wai nui marsh, some hills and of course the famed Kailua bay.

Even though that many small neighborhoods in this town, there are generally 4 main areas to consider.

Lanikai is a small community that has one road in and one road out.  It is enclosed by mountains and the ocean.  The picturesque Lanikai Beach has been used in many advertisements in large part due to its soft white sand beach, clear water, and the two Mokulua islands that sit off shore.  The ocean is very gentle here and suitable for the smallest of swimmers.  This is a very active, close-knit community with people regularly out walking, running, or bicycling in the neighborhood.

Beachside is the area that fronts along Kailua beach.  (There are 2 beaches in Kailua:  Lanikai Beach and Kailua Beach).  Most of beachside Kalaheo is made up of small little streets off of Kalaheo Avenue which runs along the beach.  Each street is different.  Each street has its own character, but all of them will give wonderful access to Kailua Beach.  Kailua beach is a long sandy beach which takes perhaps and hour to walk the entire beach.  Some parts have small waves to boogie board, a couple of spots are nice to long board and other parts are very gentle.  One can kite surf, kayak, windsurf, boogie board, or  just swim from this sandy beach.

Enchanted Lake is set off from the beach and is set around Enchanted lake which is in Kailua as a result of the Ka Wai Nui marsh.  Some homes front along the water where you can kayak or have small party boats tied up to your property.  Other parts of enchanted lake have views over Kailua and there is everything in between.

Coconut grove is set off of Beachside against the Ka Wai Nui marsh.  This area is generally flat, but still are relatively close to the beach as well as shopping in town.  Here the homes have smaller lots and are generally more affordable in Kailua.
